BATTERY, STARTER AND ALTERNATORS
Your starter and the battery are the components that starts your vehicle. The starter uses power from the battery to spin the flywheel and give your engine the jumpstart it needs to turn on. The alternator charges your battery and powers the electrical system while your car is running. There are many reasons for a battery’s failure, such as a defective alternator draining the battery, extended lack of use, interior lights left on, or cold outside temperatures. No matter the cause, having a dead car battery can stall your car and leave you stranded.
Common symptoms of faulty starter components are hearing a slight crank when you turn the key. This occurs when the equipment struggles to turn the flywheel at its proper speed. If this persists, your engine will eventually fail to activate altogether. Alternator problems also may cause a faint clicking sound as you attempt to start your vehicle and eventually the alternator will stop charging the battery. At that point, your car will not start. You should have an expert technician diagnose and repair these components as soon as you detect the first symptoms as subtle as they may present themselves.
Still driving your car if you start having issues with the alternator or having any symptoms is not the best solution because it may cause an early draining of the battery since the car will rely solely on it for electrical power. The car may stop and you will not be able to restart it.
Also having a faulty alternator may ruin a new battery and cause it to die prematurely. If you wait too long you will have to change both the alternator and the battery.
